The Week in Trailers: The Game is Afoot

Sherlock Holmes: Guy Ritchie brings his penchant for colorful crime characters to the most famous of all detectives, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.

First impressions: From the looks of this trailer, we’re in for an Indiana Jones-style adventure, as opposed to a heady detective piece. Robert Downey Jr. risks playing Holmes as another brainiac playboy (hopefully he’ll keep Tony Stark in the Marvel Universe.)

The Road: Cormac McCarthy’s bleak novel gets the film treatment in the long delayed movie starring Viggo Mortensen.

First impressions: The book is a very personal story between a man and his son. As long as the film keeps that at it’s core (the trailer makes it look a little more epic in scope) it should be great. Can’t imagine anyone but Aragorn playing this role.

Blood: The Last Vampire: From the producer of Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Blood is based on the popular anime about a half human/half vampire samurai that hunts demons.

First impressions: Ninjas, demons, vampires, and a Joshi-Kosei kicking ass? Yes, please.

i can’t wait to see all of these!! the road was a brilliant book – probably the first that i’ve ever been frightened during the reading of it. i hope they stay true to the main story about the relationship between the father and the son.

now, as for action – i get that a manga has to have slow motion action sequences … but sherlock frakkin’ holmes??? please, no …

I think a lot of die hard Sherlockians are gonna be turned off by this trailer, but it’s early…
