My fellow Robotech geeks will know that February 7, 2009 was the date of the official launch ceremonies for the maiden voyage of the SDF-1 on Macross Island in the classic anime series. Which leads me to this question: WHERE THE HELL IS OUR FLYING ROBOTIC SPACE FORTRESS????!!!!!!
Isn’t it weird how far away 2009 seemed to us back in 1985, when we were watching Rick Hunter agonize over Lynn Minmay and Lisa Hayes? It seemed totally plausible to me that we’d have battle mechs and robotic spaceships by the early 21st century. Where did we go wrong? How much more money do we have to throw at DARPA to get us some Veritech Fighters up in here?!!
To commemorate the historic launch that never happened, Japanese clothing company Cospa has released some tees featuring the famous battleship!

It’s secretly being constructed in a sub section of Area-51, known as S-4, inside a camouflaged mountain hanger. Bob Lazar’s former hangout.
But we can already see smaller samples of the technology involved.
The Joint Strike Fighter is really a cover for a new type of Valkyrie. Reports have suggested, it has legs… Hence the cost.
But I’m not waiting for a government model. Once I attach a pair of jet boosters to this bad boy, I’m half way there.
Seriously,
I’m really heartbroken at what was promised and what exists. I guess we can’t allways live up to the Japanese imagination.
Who knows, eksith… Maybe another 10-20 years? Projects like Big Red need more funding, and the Joint Strike Fighter has a long way to go to transform into a battle mech!
