Pulp Science: Robots Are Among Us

Movies like I, Robot and A.I. have shown us possible futures of human/robot society. Here are two videos that demonstrate how far we’ve come in the first decade of the 21st century to achieving a world of robot integration.

The first video is a three month old baby meeting a Crabfu swashbot for the first time. Watch the expressions on his face, as if he’s trying to figure out how it works — and without a shred of fear!

The second video is produced by Carnegie Mellon University, and showcases the roles robotics play in different industries. It argues that robotics will have the same impact on the new economy that the computer had on the information age.

I think these two videos together form a nice little thesis: To stay globally competitive, Americans are going to have to understand robots and how they work. More robotics careers will develop, and as more children grow up with robots around them, the societal paranoia of evil robotic overlords will hopefully dissipate…

Then it may not be so taboo for me to get around town on a flying robotic dragon.
