I’m all for cutting down on gasoline consumption and stuff, but if I’m gonna peddle around town using my, uh — muscles, I think I’ll stick to a bike. The Monowheel, designed by Ben Wilson for the the XXIst Century Man Exhibition in Tokyo, just screams, “Hey, neighborhood kids – Come push me over!”
Says Wilson on Dezeen:
“Since the 1860′s many patents have been filed in the monowheel’s name and today there are even rumors of a production monowheel in China, but as it stands there is nothing currently available. As we couldn’t buy a monowheel we made one.”
Gee, I wonder why the 150-year-old monowheel hasn’t caught on… I mean, it looks like such an easy and relaxing way to get around!

Technically, you can go just as fast as a motorcycle, but the inertia involved in acceleration & deceleration could have that thing turn into a hamster wheel. With you as the hamster.
Amid the dusty, gritty and windy ambiance of “Burning Man” you may also encounter the “Riot Wheel“.
Basically, one giant tractor wheel attached to scaffolding with the engine inside, and… get this… You ride it outside the wheel.
Just as fun as your garden variety ‘mono, but with extra visibility… and dust.
