Solar Vehicle Gets 2,861.8 mpg

Yeah, that’s not a typo. The Pulsar, a solar vehicle designed by Purdue University for the Shell sponsored Eco-Marathon, was the best of the two solar-powered entries at the annual event, although it was ineligible to win the grand prize (Why? Well, because it’s sponsored by Shell, and they want you to use gasoline, no matter how much they greenwash themselves).

The event challenges students around the world to design, build, and test vehicles that travel further using less energy. The team from Mater Dei High School won the grand prize for it’s gas-sipping entry that rolled to a record 2,843.4 miles per gallon. The grand prize purse is $10,000.

Keep it up, young people – with the price of gas skyrocketing, we need ultra-efficiency asap.
