Picture of the Week: Steampunk Monitor Dons Victorian Style

Thanks to Eksith who turned me on to Jake von Slatt’s SteamPunk Workshop. This pic is of a Dell 1907FP flat panel monitor that he transformed into a classy Victorian steampunk desktop. Badass. There are plenty of photos and some video of the reconstruction here.

The Steampunk subculture is starting to gain — uhm… steam — perhaps because it values individual, hand crafted aesthetics over the mass produced, uniformed, iPod-white technologies pervading the modern landscape. There are plenty of other attributes that attract people to the Steampunk subculture, many of which are discussed in this post from i09.

Tally-ho!

    A Victorian style computer. WTF???????
The only thing they wanted to do in Victorian times was to Control Alt Delete the black plague.
If this computer gets a virus will it be typhoid???????????

  2. That looks SOOO schweet… I don’t like your example of the iPod as an ugly, mass-produced technology however. Macintosh’s “i” line of computers and accessories have brought the old ugly computer tower in a new, sleeker, 2001-esque direction.

Never said it was ugly — just said it was uniform and pervasive. I like the clean white look, but it’s a fucking bore when every device and everybody has it. Besides, the ole Tesla ’99 is straight up steampunk!

Awww man, I want one of those keyboards. A case in point of having too much time on your hands leading to something productive…
