Baby Robot Even Freaks Me Out

iCub Robot

It may not be a Gerber baby, but the iCub could change the history of robotics, and the world along with it.

Researchers at the University of Plymouth will work with the 3ft. humanoid robot and language development specialists for the next four years, in a groundbreaking effort to see if they can teach the iCub to learn, think, and talk. They will attempt teaching the robot words and phrases, like a parent teaches children. You know, basic phrases like “robot puts stick on cube”.

From BBC News:

Angelo Cangelosi, Professor in Artificial Intelligence said: “The outcome of the research will define the scientific and technological requirements for the design of humanoid robots able to develop complex behavioural, thinking and communication skills through individual and social learning.”

Get ready, folks — The Dawn of the Age of Robots is here. No word yet on if iCubs will be available for adoption. Then again, with a face like that…
